It’s Game Time! Introducing The NFL’s First Hackathon

Hut. Hut. HACK!!! (sorry, we had to...)

No but seriously, we’re bridging two seemingly random worlds, football and hacking, and bringing you a TOUCHDOWN (it’s hard to resist…) of a hackathon. And it’s called, wait for it, THE NFL HACKATHON.

It’s taking place on February 20th and 21st, in San Francisco, and we’re gonna make this thing BIG. NFL big. And that means we’re kicking off with a Happy Hour on Friday the 19th. Just wait till you see all the cool stuff you can pull and incorporate in your project.

So here’s the challenge we want attendees to tackle, it’s a good one:

Develop the next generation of engaging NFL stories using the provided NFL Next Gen Stats Data. Using the raw location data, you’ll demo new innovations of real time game pattern recognition that educates the fans and demonstrates the game in ways that have never been seen before. Teams should avoid simply visualizing the data or playback of data.

Check out the prizes up for grabs:

Grand Prize - $10,000 and the team will fly roundtrip to the NFL LA campus for a day, demo their hack to NFL engineers & staff, and tour the NFL Media Field House & Gridiron Studios of the NFL Network.

1st Runner up - $5,000

2nd Runner up - $2,500

Not too shabby.

There’s going to be a Pre-hack WebEx on Wednesday February 17th, from 6:30 pm PST to 8:30 pm PST. All developers, designers and entrepreneurs as well as hackathon partners are invited to join the session. The NFL will propose their challenge, introduce their technology and answer any questions to help ensure an amazing experience.  

The NFL Hackathon will kickoff with a happy hour on Friday February 19th at 6pm.
